I saw the title of a book, Motherhood is Easy, sitting in the inbox of my email and I immediately opened it. I thought maybe finally someone had the cure for motherhood or they had never been a mother. Then…
I read the subtitle – “as long as you have nothing to do for the next 50 years.” Finally! Someone who understands. It doesn’t matter that my 8 month old is naked with just a diaper on and my 2 year old has substituted real cookies for fake cookies in her play kitchen without me knowing – someone understands.
I knew I had to read this book and if it was good enough, share it with you all. I found myself laughing, crying, and groaning throughout the whole book. Rebekah Hunter Scott wasn’t talking about her home – she was talking about mine. The house with the hundred and one tripping hazards purposely placed by my 2 year old so that mommy might fall flat on her face. That 5:30 pm desperate call to my husband to find out where he is so that he can rescue me before I totally lose all sanity over the fact that my 2 year old doesn’t speak in English – she speaks in whines.
Mother is Easy is a candid, honest look at motherhood and the struggles that all we mothers face. Rebekah Hunter Scott says it like it is and doesn’t hide any of the terrible details. Her look at motherhood made me feel better about how chaotic my days are and the fact that I am not alone. As moms, we all face the same things and not only did she emphasize that, she added the humor that we all need when we feel like one more thing is going to cause us to lose it.
As a conservative mom, I did find some of the language to be a bit over the top for me as I do not swear. I would have loved to have seen these stories of motherhood told without the swearing because it would have had the same power and humor to it.
If you are looking for a real look at motherhood, Motherhood is Easy…if you have nothing to do for the next 50 years is the book you are looking for. You most likely will not walk away with tons of wisdom with what to do when your child is teething or won’t nurse but you will walk away with a sense of relief that you can laugh at yourself and the things you are going through as a mom. You aren’t alone.
You can check out Motherhood is Easy to not only find out where to order the book but to also check out her blog and more thoughts on motherhood.

I’ll have to look for it at the library. I agree about the language with so many books and movies lately. I grew up in a house where “butt” was a bad word and now you can say much worse and not get “bleeped” on t.v.
A title like that would’ve gotten my attention too. LOL
I’m also more conservative when it comes to swearing, so I’m not sure if I would enjoy this book, but if you liked it even with the bad words, I’l give it a shot.
This book is hilarious. I’ve read it four times and laughed every single time. Yes, I’m a dad, but I’m a very involved dad. Interesting how this review has 6 paragraphs, five of which describe the book in glowing terms, but the one paragraph that contains a slight negative is picked up on. I’m not a prude nor am I so liberal as to think people should be able to spew filth from their mouths endlessly. I found the expletives in this book to be a real, logical reaction to the insane situations children can get us into. I do not feel the language was gratuitous at all. Chalk it up to male perspective possibly? In any event, if you’ve ever had children, male or female, this book will make you laugh! Thank you for the great review!
Huh, I will have to look for this book! It sounds like something my mom would get a kick out of. (It sounds like it might be Emma Bombeck-like, and my mom loves Emma Bombeck.)
I’m not really that conservative in general, but I agree with you on swearing…whenever I read/hear it, it makes me wince a little. My momma raised me well, I guess.
This book makes you laugh out loud: at Rebekah’s stories and at yourself because you’ve been through the same thing, but could never tell it to someone else and make it sound this funny! Seriously, who doesn’t want to curse sometimes after being with kids all day?!
This book is lunatic funny! From beginning to end, it makes you laugh out loud. ANY mom would laugh. Even the most staid. Do yourself a favor and get a copy. The laughter will make your day go better.
I love this book, I’m on my second round of reading it and I gifted three copies to moms-to-be who are friends. (The cursing is not that bad, probably PG-13 or late night TV level).
