As summer has ended and our kids are back to school and our routines are being established again, making sure we allot time for God’s Word and teach our children how important that time is essential.

Finding that 1st Bible or the perfect Bible for our children can be hard so I recently began looking to see what was out there. I came across Baker House’s KJV Study Bible for Girls and decided as a parent to see what this Study Bible was all about.

Each book is introduced with several pages about the book. The Bible can be difficult for adults to understand at times so finding a Bible that helps a child understand God’s Word is a great thing. This study Bible offered for both boys and girls not only contains the introduction but so much more:
Book Introductions. Descriptive features that highlight contents of each book of the Bible.
Good Morning, God. Brief devotionals tied to specific Bible passages that encourage children to read, think, and pray about their personal lives and relationships.
Genuine Heroes and Heroines. Biographical sketches of persons whose lives and actions display traits boys and girls can admire and emulate.
Men’s World and Women’s World. Details what life was like for men and women in Bible times.
Be All You Can Be. Challenges boys and girls to act appropriately, make right decisions, and choose worthwhile values.

Drawings, illustrations, and maps. Supplements to assist understanding of the Bible in proper context.
While this Bible is geared to an 8 – 12 year old so that they can independently study God’s Word, as a parent you can certainly use this Bible to read and have devotion time as early as you chose. Gracie and I daily spend a few minutes reading her Bible. She may not understand it all but she is very proud of the fact that she is like mommy and daddy and has her own Bible.

Establishing an early habit of daily Bible reading and prayer is important in any child’s life and will stay with them as they graduate and begin life without us as parents.
There was only one problem I had with the KJV Study Bible for Girls and that was a few of the illustrations. I found them a bit Gothic and not as innocent as I would have liked in a child’s Bible. They were a bit creepy.

We were able to gently remove the illustrations in such a way that it did not harm the Bible and Gracie will never know the difference. As a parent, you may want to read through every devotion or commentary to make sure that you completely agree with what it is teaching your child. There are a few things that we will go over with Gracie but they are just little things that we ourselves do not do. There was nothing doctrinal that we disagreed with that we have come across so far.
If you are looking for a great 1st Study Bible for your girl or boy, definitely take a look at Baker House’s KJV Study Bible for Girls or Boys . It is made of great quality and a great resource when beginning to introduce God’s Word into their lives.

Yeah, I must say I agree with you about the pictures. That picture of David and Goliath might scare a little one. Plus, I highly doubt that David wore nothing but a hairy girdle and leather straps so it’s not very realistic. As a mom, I want Bible illustrations to be realistic so that my child will never think of Bible stories as just another cartoon.
