Our kids today are inundated with so much garbage and have so much available to them that the things that are not good for them are made to look enticing and wonderful. Melody Carlson is a writer that is trying to reach our young adults with a message that shows them how foolish and dangerous things can be through fiction.
Synopsis: All Elise wants is to have her first kiss before she turns sixteen. Is that so bad? But when a friend’s poor advice and the powers of electronic technology combine, Elise heads down a dangerous road. She is accused of “sexting” and gets kicked out of school. But is she really the one to blame?
This powerful and realistic story from beloved author Melody Carlson shows teen girls the impact of their choices when it comes to respecting themselves and their integrity. Honest and relevant, Never Been Kissed will make girls laugh, cry . . . and think.
My Opinion: As an adult who is now married and has two very young children, my heart goes out to young people because we do live in a day and age where staying pure before you are married is not cool. Saving your kiss for your wedding day (like I did) is unheard of.
I wish that Melody Carlson’s story was not so realistic but it is and she is honest as represents what young people are doing today all in the name of “love”. This is a book that would be great for a daughter and mother to read and discuss together because it really touches on things that would not be so much of a problem if today’s parents were really in touch with their young people.
Sexting is a real thing today and for that reason we really need to instruct our young people on the danger of cell phones and how to use them properly. Never Been Kissed was a great book in opening the eyes of young people to the dangers of the sexting but this a book that should be used with caution. I believe books like these can also cause young people to test things that have never thought to and flirt with danger.
I would love to see Melody Carlson and other writers who target young adults to focus on what it means to stay in pure in an impure world. I would love for them to share with young people not only the dangers of sexting, premarital sex, and drugs but also focus on the blessings that come from abstaining from those things.Tweet
