Customer Service – Does It Really Count?

My husband, three kids, and I walked into a furniture store just recently with the intention to purchase furniture.  We had just left another furniture store where we had been greeted warmly and had many of our questions answered by a sales rep.  The sales rep was not overly pushy and allowed us time to browse alone but was also available to us whenever we needed him.  As we walked into this second store with the hopes to get the same attention and look at the competition, we found that no one came to greet us.  We were dressed like regular folks out on the town.  I think our three little kids gave the idea that we were just browsing.

After a few minutes of trying to find what we were looking for on our way, a rep walked up.  She asked what we were searching for and with a wave of her hand directed us towards the general location.  I had many questions but just as I started to ask them she walked off to greet a very professional looking couple walking through the door.  After a few minutes of unsuccessful searching, we left that furniture and headed back to the one with great customer service.  I would much rather spend my hard saved money in a store that truly cares.

I know I am not the only one who has left a store out of frustration because of the lack of customer service.  Little does the company realize how not only did the rep lose their commission but the store lost a customer and maybe more than one because customers tend to talk.

Global Response’s inbound call centers strive to provide companies with great customer service so that customers leave happy rather than dissatisfied.   Just today, I was on the phone with my cellular service trying to get a replacement phone.  The rep was quick to point to out that I had been with that particular company for 9 years and the main reason is that they treat me with respect, they fix my issues appropriately, and I do not spend hours waiting for service.  It is not because their rates are cheaper or that the coverage is better but it is because they care about me as a customer.

How important is customer service to you?  Do you have a company that you absolutely love for the way they treat you?

I feel customer service is very important and I give stellar customer service. So I am a bit chagrined when I don’t receive good customer service myself. Just experienced that today with a painting company we hired. Found out their quote was only for the trim!!! Thanks for a fun article.
