Abigail is our 3rd child so we have been through many car seats over the last almost 6 years. We have learned some hard lessons about what not to buy in a seat and what features we prefer.
Here’s a few things we now look for:
2. Ease of install
3. Ability to be cleaned easily
4. Comfortable for our child
We have seats that we thought were really safe but they weren’t. We have had seats that cost my husband (he installs them all) much time of toil to install. We had a seat that took an hour to take off the cover to wash and then another a hour to get back on. (I am not exaggerating.) I have been known to now test the car seat in the store for certain things because we want to ensure our children are in good car seats.
When we were sent the Britax Boulevard 70-G3, we examined it for the criteria above. The first thing we both noticed is that you can actually see the safety in the car seat. The first thing I noticed were the HUGS™ Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology®. I didn’t quite understand them at first but when I buckled Abigail in for the first time I realized that these chest pads, look like a honeycomb, help me as a parent make sure the buckle is properly placed so that she is safe every time. The SafeCell Technology compress to manage energy and reduce forward movement. I noticed that this too keeps Abigail from doing much movement. She is snug as a bug in her car seat and she is literally not going anywhere.
Abigail is Rear Facing at 18 months old and is 26 pounds. I am thrilled that she can continue to rear face in her car seat until 40 pounds or she is too long. She can then move to Forward Facing up to 70 pounds.
The Britax Boulevard 70-63 seat also offers:
- Integrated steel bars that strengthen the seat’s connection to the vehicle and reduce forward flexing in a crash
- Side Impact Cushion Technology, a third layer of protection, with energy-absorbing cushions on the child seat’s exterior to reduce side impact energy by diverting 45 percent of the crash forces away from the seated child
- A second layer of protection with energy-absorbing True Side Impact Protection head restraint that keeps the head, neck and spine aligned.
- BRITAX convertible car seats feature a rigid shell with deep side walls lined with energy-absorbing foam providing Side Impact Protection.
My husband loved installing this car seat. He thought it was one of the easiest he had ever installed. To see his thoughts on this car seat, see his thoughts in the video below (and yes, my husband wears a tie everyday. He did this review right before work thus the tie. ):
Abigail is thrilled with her new seat. My husband and I are thrilled that no matter what she is safe in her seat. Britax truly lived up to the motto “Safety You Can See”.
